Rules and Regulations

 

AWARDS

  1. Trophies will be awarded to all participants who have attained first in class.
  2. Commendation prizes are awarded to First Place winners who have attained a mark of 88 or more.
  3. Scholarships are awarded to Annual Trophy and Best of Level winners, granted by the YMF Committee, based on the recommendation of the Jury Panel.
  4. To be eligible for Best of Level awards, the participant must have entered at least two classes at the SAME RCM LEVEL with a First Place in one of the classes with a mark of 88 or above.
  5. To be considered eligible for Best of Festival Award, the participant must have received First Place in at least 2 classes.
  6. Commendation prize recipients must be present at the Gala Concert and Awards Ceremony to collect the prize. Please refer to the Gala Concert & Awards Ceremony section (page 7) for more details.

ENTRIES

  1. Application must be received electronically by the deadline Thursday, February 22, 2024, 11:59PM EDT.
  2. All participants must  fill  out  and  submit  the  Online Application Form:  it provides a step-by-step guide to filling in all the information for each entry.
  3. After YMF has received a participant’s application, an automated email will be sent to the applicant. A Payment Notice will follow shortly, with the total class fees plus $15 administrative fee, payment methods and deadline for payment.
  4. Late submissions are accepted until Thursday, February 29, 2024, with a Late Fee of $20 applied; no applications will be accepted after that date.
  5. An additional administrative fee of $35 will be charged for all bounced cheques (non-sufficient funds). 
  6. After the payment has been received, a Payment Confirmation will be emailed to the participant.
  7. Piano repertoire (EXCEPT for P-CCO entries) Piano repertoire (EXCEPT for P-CCO entries) must be chosen from the 2022 RCM (Royal Conservatory of Music) Syllabus unless otherwise stated. Participants may enter a piece not listed in the 2022 RCM Syllabus as an "irregular list submission". Such submissions must be accompanied by the RCM written approval at the time of application.
  8. All violin repertoire (EXCEPT for V-CCO entries) must be chosen from the 2021 RCM Syllabus unless otherwise stated. Participants may enter a piece not listed in the 2021 RCM Syllabus as an “irregular list submission”. Such submissions must be accompanied by the RCM written approval at the time of application.
  9. No changes can be made to repertoire selection after submission of application form.
  10. No repertoire can be used in more than one class.
  11. Participants must specify the duration of their competition piece, as close to the actual playing time as possible.
  12. It is the responsibility of the participant to ensure that all information on the Application Form is properly filled in. An unclear form, missing or misleading information, and errors on the application may result in disqualification or comments only to be given. No refunds are made under these circumstances.
  13. A valid contact phone number and a REGULARLY CHECKED email account are required upon application submission. YMF Committee reserves the right to contact competitors by either phone or e-mail. 
  14. The YMF Committee reserves the final right to refuse any entry.
  15. All fees are non-refundable.
  16. Proper performance attire should be worn at all classes.
  17. No special scheduling request will be considered. 
  18. For Violin and Musical Theatre classes, LIVE piano accompaniment is required, EXCEPT: Violin Grade 8-ARCT List D classes, or if a solo unaccompanied piece is chosen for a Violin Recital Class. No recorded tracks are permitted. 
  19. All pieces must be performed from memory unless otherwise stated. Participants who fail to comply with this rule will be given comments only. No mark or placement will be awarded.

  20. Only ONE etude is required to be performed in the Piano Etude Class; no Popular Selection as replacement. Memorization is required for this class.
  21. All competition pieces must be performed without repeats, with the exception of a Da Capo (D.C.) or Dal Segno (D.S.).
  22. Participants must perform competition pieces as stated on the application form. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.
  23. For the NEW CCO Featured Soloist Classes, please refer to Rules #69-74 for additional requirements.
  24. No contact with the adjudicators via e-mail or otherwise is allowed; all communication or enquiries from participants must be directed to the YMF Committee via e-mail: [email protected].
